Dear friends,
We tried to isolate this message to those in or around NYC. Apologies if it ended up in your inbox as well.
The great news for the Jews is that we have the right to vote.
We have the right to choose our elected officials and vote against those who pose an existential threat to us.
Not to become too political, but New York City is facing an extremely scary moment in time with a barely veiled antisemitic social media savvy candidate glad-handing his way to potential primary victory. The newish ranking system means that even lazily voting could shift your votes to the person the New York Times (no friend of the Jews) urged you to vote against.
Just about a year ago, the New York Times announced it would no longer endorse candidates in municipal elections. And yet its the 16-member editorial board released a strongly worded statement advising New Yorkers to not vote for Z*hran M*mdani for mayor (We’re not going to use his name here because that drives the algorithm he so gleefully chases).
We do not believe that Mr. M*mdani deserves a spot on New Yorkers’ ballots. His experience is too thin, and his agenda reads like a turbocharged version of (Bill) de Blasio’s dismaying mayoralty.
Please note that among other exquisite shows of gleeful ignorance, M*mdani lauded de Blasio as the greatest mayor this city as ever had.
And in case you despair of the only logical choice we’re left with, the NYT put it well:
As for (Andrew) Cuomo, we have serious objections to his ethics and conduct, even if he would be better for New York’s future than Mr. M*mdani.
The NY Post was less subtle:
Keep menace Z*hran M*mdani completely off your NYC ballot in the Democratic mayoral primary.
The Queens Chronicle had this to say:
Vote anyone but M*mdani
In other words, if his name rhymes with Slamdani, don’t rank him at all. Don’t even put him on the ballot. His father, a college professor, has gleefully incited much of the antisemitic rhetoric on the Columbia University campus since October 7th. There’s no justification for voting for this person.
Back in May, amNewYork (Kumzits co-founder Rachel is a former op-ed columnist) had this to say:
M*mdani’s Israel, Holocaust resolution refusals show he’s unfit to lead NYC
While you’re at it, the candidate whose name rhymes with Pander has declared that he’ll give his votes to the candidate who lives and breathes rhetoric that is bad for the Jews.
Don’t give either of them your vote.
In some elections we use our vote to vote against a certain candidate. We strongly advice doing that today.
P.S.: Please hydrate during the heatwave and use your vote to stand up for the Jewish people.
BTW, you don't have to use ranked voting when you vote in the primary, any New York Primary for that matter. When I voted in the NYC primary last week, I asked the poll workers if I was obligated to do ranked voting or if I could only vote for one candidate. I was informed that ranked voting is an OPTION.
Personally, I am not going to do ranked voting as its like awarding participation trophies. Just because you show up, doesn't mean you get a prize.
As an FYI, I loosely worked with Cuomo years ago. Aside from being a screamer -- we already knew that, he was professional, and went over and above to assist the nonprofit he was affiliated with; housing is a cause he deeply believes in. Did he yell at me, yep. I survived. I'm a New Yorker, I'm used to yelling.
